About Hauz Khas Fort
The Hauz Khas Complex is a medieval treasure nestled within one of Delhi's trendiest neighborhoods. Built in the 13th century by Sultan Alauddin Khalji, the complex features a large water reservoir (hauz means "reservoir" in Urdu), an Islamic seminary (madrasa), a mosque, and the tomb of Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The reservoir was originally built to supply water to the nearby Siri Fort city, the second of Delhi's seven historic cities. Today, the ruins sit alongside the beautiful Hauz Khas Deer Park, home to spotted deer and peacocks, creating a unique blend of medieval history and urban green space. The complex offers some of the most atmospheric sunset views in Delhi, with the ancient domes and minarets silhouetted against the sky over the tranquil lake.
